Three Brown Bears
(Tune: 3 Blind Mice) |
|
|
|
Three brown
bears,
Three brown bears,
See all their beds,
See all their chairs,
The mommy cooked in a big brown
pot, The
daddy's porridge was much too hot,
The baby bear always cried a lot,
Three brown bears,
Three brown bears. |

Porridge Tasting Graph
|
Materials:
instant oatmeal, brown sugar or honey, cups, spoons, chart
paper, markers.
Make instant oatmeal and divide into disposable cups (cheaper
and smaller than disposable bowls). Use the wooden flat
spoons that come with Dixie cups, they are much cheaper than
plastic spoons. Add some brown sugar or honey to the
oatmeal to give it some flavor. Prepare a graph in advance
using the chart paper, draw a happy face on the top right hand
side and a sad face on the top left. Have students taste
the "porridge" and then write their names on the chart under the
appropriate face (happy face for "yes, I liked it" and sad face
for "no, I didn't like it"). Discuss the results during
large group and post on the wall. |
|
Small, Medium, and Large
|
Materials:
brown construction paper, manila paper, markers/crayons,
scissors, glue, miscellaneous craft items (i.e. buttons, fabric,
ribbon, wiggly eyes...)
Xerox 3 different sized bear
patterns on brown construction paper; small, medium, and large.
Have the students cut out the bears and use their
crayons/markers, craft items, and glue to decorate the bear
family. Students can glue the three bears onto the manila
paper according to size. |
|
Act out the story
|
Materials:
story masks, props such as bowls, chairs, and blankets, yellow
yarn, sentence strip, glue.
Print out and laminate
the story masks from Harcourt:
click here Select several students to be "characters"
in your play. The teacher can act as narrator as the
students act out the story. Provide students with the
props they will need to act out the story. To make
Goldilocks hair glue the yellow yarn to the bottom of a sentence
strip to make into a headband. Don't forget to add "bangs"
on the front!
|
|
Compare and Contrast
|
Materials:
Xerox copies of the front of several different Goldilocks
stories, glue stick, chart paper, markers.
Xerox the front cover of
several Goldilocks books. Shrink the copies so they will
all fit at the top of your chart paper. Glue the copies to
the top of the chart and use the markers to make the lines for a
graph. Show the students the actual books and have a
discussion comparing and contrasting the stories. Have the
students write their names under their favorite Goldilocks story
and review the results in large group. Post the chart on
the wall for future reference.
|
|
Story Sequence
|
Materials:
Copy of Goldilocks Fairy Tale Sequence from Frank Schaffer,
construction paper cut hot dog style, crayons, scissors, glue.
Have students color the
pictures for the story sequence, cut, and glue in the correct
sequence on the construction paper. While I am not a big
fan of worksheets this activity can be good tool to measure how
well your students understand the sequence of the story and
follow directions. |
