5 Reasons to Shop on Craig’s List

Welcome to Technology Tuesday at Pre-K Pages. Today I’m going to show you how to get more bang for your buck by bargain shopping on Craig’s List.

What is Craig’s List? Craig’s List is a website where people list items they want to sell, like the classified section of the newspaper – only digital. You can view what people are selling and then contact them directly; no middle men, listing fees, or shipping charges, it’s all local.

I will be the first to admit I love a good bargain, but what I love even more is the thrill of finding a good bargain. I used to go to garage sales every Friday and Saturday morning in the summer to search for items for my classroom. It was always hit or miss; sometimes I would shop all morning and come back with only one book or toy, other days I would find plenty of great deals. Then I discovered Craig’s List and I said good-bye to those early morning jaunts forever, now I just surf Craig’s List to find local bargains.

Here are my top 5 reasons to shop on Craig’s List:

  1. It’s easy, just visit the website and type what you’re looking for in the search box and you’re on your way.
  2. No hidden fees or shipping costs. With Craig’s List it’s all done locally, you go to the seller to pick-up your items or meet them in a public place. Use cash only.
  3. Haggling allowed! If you want to buy something but you really don’t want to pay the asking price you can haggle directly with the seller.
  4. Garage Sales: Many people post their garage sales on Craig’s List; they list exactly what they are selling and often include pictures. You can search by location nearest you and keywords to find what you’re looking for.
  5. Volume: Often when people have a lot of items to sell they prefer Craig’s List over eBay because posting on Craig’s List is very quick and easy as opposed to eBay. This translates into Teacher Garage Sales, when teachers retire they will often hold a “retirement sale” and post it on Craig’s List because they have too many items to sell and could never list them all on eBay.

Some of my best deals were found at Craig’s List garage sales:

  • Floor puzzles
  • Fisher Price doll high chair
  • Brand new Lakeshore items
  • Big books
  • Manipulatives
  • DVD’s
  • And MUCH more!
