Creative Classroom File Organizer

DIY File Organization Hack

Every teacher I know, myself included, struggles with managing the mountains of paperwork that comes with the territory. I have tried just about everything to keep my desk tidy {I just love that word, it’s so under-used!} but it’s a constant battle. This cheap DIY classroom file organizer using a dishrack is a fantastic teaching hack!

Dish Drainer Classroom File Organizer

I am all about teaching hacks. Especially ones that are cheap and easy like this classroom file organizer using a dish rack.

Stacking file holders are great, but not only did I re-purpose mine, I found myself stuffing papers on the shelves just to get them out of the way.

I used to have one of those fabulous wall organizers in my old classroom but I no longer have the space for it.

I love things that are cheap, yet functional and this dish drainer turned file organizer certainly fits the bill. I like how I can quickly and easily put papers in the correct folders instead of just throwing them in a big pile.

This dish drainer only set me back about five dollars at my local big box store. How stinking cute would it look with some of those designer file folders that are in stores right now? Get thee to an office supply store now!

  1. Cute! I already have a desk file folder holder, but if I didn’t I would totally borrow this idea!

I wish I had a desk – I’m in our community hall, so my “desk” is our kitchen counter. Thankfully they let me have some cupboards that I can use to keep my desk-type things in, including my files, when I have to remove all traces of preschool. One day I hope we can have our own place!

  2. Wonderful idea! I keep the work I have the kids doing in Mon-Fri file folders but have always struggled finding somewhere to keep them. This is definitely going on my desk. Thanks for sharing this idea!

  3. LOVE it! And I just happen to have an old dish drainer that I was wondering what to do with. Thanks for sharing!

I find myself doing the same thing…throwing papers on the shelf to review later [and then later never comes, haha]. I unfornately do not have a desk so this organizer might just be the ticket as I can store it on a shelf or atop a cabinet. Thanks for sharing!

P.S. Thank you for visiting my blog! I’m so glad you like it! I have loved so many of the things you have done and referenced your webiste ALOT during my first year of teaching and I still do! You’re awesome!

  5. Fantastic! I’m anxious to go out and get a dish drainer! We usually put the children’s folders in a dish pan or repurposed storage box, but the drainer will be so much better! Easier to keep upright and put papers into nat the end of the day.
