The dollhouse is a very important part of the ESL Pre-K classroom
because it helps develop language skills. By manipulating dolls and
using different voices to represent various family members, students are imitating real world experiences and practicing
oral language while having fun.
My father made this dollhouse for us using a Lakeshore dollhouse as a model.
The furniture was purchased from Lakeshore on clearance. Ikea
also makes a great, inexpensive set of wooden dollhouse furniture.
I use various dolls in
the dollhouse, many of which I have found at garage sales. The
children's favorites are those dolls that are jointed such as the
Fisher Price Loving Family. The Fisher Price dolls are made of
plastic and very durable.
