Easter Literacy Activities

Hop! Alphabet Game

This activity includes both upper and lower case versions in black and white or color. Students will take turns drawing a card, identifying the letter, and marking it on their recording sheet. When the Hop! card is drawn all the students can stand and hop like a bunny. This activity also includes two recording sheets, one for uppercase letters and one for lowercase letters and is available in the Easter Literacy Packet located in the printables section below.

Easter Egg Beginning Sounds Activity

Students will identify the beginning sound of each picture and attach a clothespin with the correct letter to the corresponding picture. There is also a black and white recording sheet included with this activity. The beginning sounds activity is available in the Easter Literacy Packet in the printables section below.

Bunny Rhyming Game

This fun game can be played in large group and is available in both black and white and color. Students take turns “reading” their cards and finding their rhyming partner. This activity is available in the Easter Literacy Packet located in the printables section below.

Easter Syllables

Students will identify the number of syllables in each picture. This activity includes a black and white recording sheet and is available in the Easter Literacy Packet located in the printables section below.

Easter Pocket Chart Sentences

Letter Matching

Setting: Small Group, Literacy Centers
Objective: Upper and lowercase letter identification/matching
Materials: magnetic letters, permanent marker, laminating film, egg accents
Directions: Write uppercase letters on the egg accents with a permanent marker. Laminate the eggs for durability. Place magnetic letters in a bowl or basket in the middle of the table so they are easily accessible to all students. Students will select an egg mat and find the corresponding lowercase letter to match.

Easter Egg Sight Words

Setting: Small Group, Literacy Centers
Objective: Sight Word identification
Materials: magnetic letters, permanent marker, laminating film, egg accents
Directions: Write a different sight word on each of the egg accents with a permanent marker. Laminate the eggs for durability. Place magnetic letters in a bowl or basket in the middle of the table so they are easily accessible to all students. Students will spell the sight words out on the egg mats with magnetic letters.

Easter Word Families

Setting: Small Group, Literacy Centers
Objective: Onset-Rime identification
Materials: plastic Easter eggs, permanent marker, three Easter baskets, recording sheet, markers or Do-A-Dot markers
Directions: Select three word families that your students are currently learning or have learned. Place three small baskets in the middle of the table and label each one with a word family chunk. Use your permanent marker to write the onset (first letter) on one half of an Easter egg and write the rime (word family chunk) on the other half of the egg. Once all the eggs are completed take them apart and mix them up. Give each student in your small group a recording sheet. Students will find the egg halves that create a correct word family word and place them in the correct basket. Students will record their finds on their recording sheet.

Upper and Lowercase Egg Matching


Setting: Small Group, Literacy Centers
Objective: Matching upper to lowercase
Materials: plastic Easter eggs, permanent marker, 1 Easter basket, recording sheet, markers or Do-A-Dot markers
Directions: Use your permanent marker to write the upper and lowercase letters on each egg. Take the eggs apart and place in an Easter basket. Give each student in your small group a recording sheet. Students will locate and reassemble the eggs with the matching letters (upper to lowercase) and record their finds on their recording sheet.

Easter Math Activities

Egg and Peep Number Game

Your students will love learning how to identify numbers with this fun, hands-on game. The Easter Egg and Peep Number Game uses plastic eggs to increase student engagement. Included are numbers 0-20 in both color and black and white or a blank set of Peeps for you to customize to meet the needs of your students. Three different recording sheets are also included. Bunny Mallow Graphing

The Bunny Mallow graphing activity is designed to be used with Kraft Bunny Mallows found in most grocery stores. Your students will have fun learning how to graph with this yummy activity! Available in both black and white and color for your convenience it also includes a printable die or pictures to use in a pocket cube. Bunny Mallow Sorting

The Bunny Mallow sorting activity is designed to be used with Kraft Bunny Mallows found in most grocery stores. Both color and black and white versions of the recording sheet are included so you can choose the ones that best meets the needs of your students. Your students will enjoy practicing their sorting skills with this fun, hands-on activity! The Bunny Mallow recording sheets are available in the Easter Math Packet in the printables section below.

{FREE} Counting Eggs in Order

This counting eggs in order activity can be found in the free printables section below. Print one sheet per child. Students will cut out the eggs and glue them in order on a sentence strip. For added fun you can turn them into headbands to wear home.

Easter Play Dough Counting Mats

The Easter play dough counting mats will help your students develop number sense and counting skills while exercising the small muscles in their hands necessary for holding a pencil and writing. These mats are available in the Easter Math Packet located in the printables section below.

Easter Patterning


You can use Easter stickers and stamps for pattern practice with the free pattern grid located in the printables section below or you can use the printable patterns included in the Easter Math Packet also located in the printables section. Also included are three pattern practice cut and paste sheets for assessment purposes. Your students will learn how to identify, extend, and create AB, AABB, and ABC patterns using these fun Easter treat shapes!

Egg Counting Book

This easy to assemble book helps reinforce number sense and counting skills. {FREE} Egg Roll ‘N Stamp Game

Setting: Small Group, Math Centers
Objective: Number recognition, number sense, one-to-one
Materials: foam die, 1-5 game recording strips, spring holiday stamps OR pastel Do-A-Dot Shimmer Markers (see resources section below)
Directions: Students take turns rolling the die, identifying the corresponding number on their paper and stamping/marking that number. See the free printables section below to download this game.

{FREE} Easter Animals Counting Book Template


Setting: Small Group, Math Centers
Objective: concepts of print, number sense, number identification
Materials: spring holiday stamps (see resources section below), “I Can See Spring” booklet- one per child (see free printables section below).
Directions: Pre-assemble and distribute one booklet to each child in your small group. Students “read” the sentences on each page using their knowledge of numbers and the rebus pictures for support. Students stamp the appropriate number of animals or items on each page.
*This is a crossover activity meaning it integrates literacy and math*

{FREE} 1-5 Counting Grid

Setting: Small Group, Math Centers
Objective: 1:1 correspondence
Materials: 1-5 counting grid- one per child (available in free printables section below), foam spring stickers
Directions: Give each child in the small group a counting grid sheet. Place the foam stickers in the center of the table in a container so all students can easily reach them. The students will place the correct number of stickers next to each number on the counting grid.

Fun Easter Activities

Bunny Listening Game

This is a fun game that your students will love, and it also improves listening skills! Read all about it on the blog HERE.

Tissue Paper Egg

Materials: white cardstock, pastel tissue paper in variety of colors, glue, liquid starch.
Cut white cardstock in the shape of a large egg. Cut the tissue paper into small squares. Have students paint the egg with glue and lay the pastel tissue squares on the egg. When dry paint over top of egg with liquid starch to give the egg a shiny, smooth appearance.

Paper Bag Bunny

Materials: white paper lunch bags, white construction paper, crayons, white cotton balls, small pink pom-pom’s, wiggly eyes, glue, scissors.
Have students decorate the front of the bag with crayons to resemble bunny face, add two wiggly eyes, and glue pink pom-pom on for nose. Glue white cotton ball on back for bunny’s tail. Cut two white ears from the construction paper and glue to the top of the bag. Fill with Easter grass and these bags can be used to hold plastic eggs and candy.

Puffy Paint Bunny or Egg
Materials: shaving cream, glue, food coloring, outline of bunny or egg on cardstock
Add: wiggly eyes, pink pom-poms and pipe cleaners if making bunny.
Mix one part white liquid glue to two parts of regular Barbasol shaving cream. If you are making an egg add food coloring. Allow students to spread mixture on their paper in large dollops. If making a bunny add wiggly eyes, pom-pom nose, and pipe cleaner whiskers before dry. When dry these paintings are three-dimensional and look fantastic displayed on a bulletin board.

Coffee Filter Eggs
Materials: regular, white coffee filters, scissors, watercolor markers, water.
Cut coffee filters into egg shape. Color coffee filters with pastel colored watercolor markers and spray lightly with water when finished. When dry they will resemble painted Easter eggs.
