Above you can see our Transportation Center as it is set up in the classroom.

Below you can see explanations of each of the items pictured above.

1. Lock Boxes

Lock boxes are great for fine motor development.  I have never found a good place to keep these and they seemed to fit well in the transportation center.  The children like to pretend they are little houses for the people.  I found a lock box in the shape of a van!  See the link in the resources section below.

2.Fisher Price School Busses

Children love to pretend with the school busses!  I found both of these at thrift stores for a $1, they were in perfect condition when I bought them.  I provide lots of Fisher Price Little People to "ride" on the school busses to encourage oral language development in my students.

3. Snap Blocks

These are overflow from my block center, there is not enough room to keep them there.  These are also great for developing fine motor skills as snapping is difficult for four year olds.

4. Fisher Price Airplane & Fire Truck

Children love to pretend with the fire truck and airplane.  I also found these at thrift stores in perfect condition.  I provide lots of Fisher Price Little People to "ride" on the fire truck and airplane to encourage oral language development in my students.

5. Cars, Trucks, & Little People

These plastic cars and trucks from Lakeshore are truly indestructible; I have been using them for years and have never had one break yet, the wheels are all still on and all parts are intact.  They are perfect for playing on the transportation rug and in the Fisher Price garage.  I also keep Fisher Price little people in the cars and truck boxes, I find them at garage sales and thrift stores for about a quarter.  The little people are used to ride on the school bus, in the fire truck, and on the airplane and they also fit in some of the cars.  Little people in the transportation center help stimulate oral language development in students.

6.Fisher Price Garage

This Fisher Price garage was also a deal I found at a thrift store for $3, in perfect condition.  I have been using it in my classroom for 4 years and it's still going strong.  The students love to use the cars and trucks with the garage and run them up and down the ramps.

7.Transportation Rug

I found this rug at Wal-Mart for less than $20.  It is very sturdy and the students love to use the cars, trucks, busses, fire truck, and airplane on it.
