Transition Song for the Preschool Classroom

transition song for classroom

It’s time to switch from center time to snack time. How do you transition the kids? Do you cringe when it’s time to switch to different activities in your schedule? Transition times don’t have to mean a time of chaos. Using a familiar song or chant is a great way to get the kids’ attention and help them switch from one activity to another.

Getting Attention Transition Song

Here is a song to help kids stop what they are working on and to listen to the next direction of the day.

Learn the Song
This song is set to the tune “Are You Sleeping?” It’s easy to learn, but you will want to practice it a few times before using it with the kids.

Can You Hear Me?

Can you hear me?

Can you hear me?

Raise your hands.

Raise your hands.

Thank you all my friends.

Thank you all my friends.

Here is what I have to say.

Here is what I have to say.

When you sing the line, “Raise your hands,” tell the children raise their hands in the air. This is helpful for getting kids to stop what they are working on and to focus on you.

    I sing a similar song:
Are you listening, are you listening?
Look at me, Look at me,
    Everybody listening
    Everybody looking
    Look at me!

Hopefully by the end of the song – everybody is looking and listening!

  2. We practice “Body Calm”:

    Bodies calm (Bodies calm)
    1, 2, 3 (1, 2, 3)
Is your body calm? (Is your body calm?)
Let me see (Let me see)
