laminating film
Directions:
Write uppercase
letters on the transportation accents with a Sharpie marker.

Transportation Sentences 1
 |
Setting:
Small Group, Literacy Centers

Give each student in the small group a transportation sentence
mat. Students will use magnetic letters to spell sight
words that make sense in the blanks.
|
|
Transportation Sight Word Mats
 |
Setting:
Small Group, Literacy Centers
Objective: Sight Word Recognition
Materials:
magnetic letters,
Sharpie Marker, laminating film, transportation accents
Directions:
Write a different
focus sight word on each of the transportation accents with a
Sharpie marker. Laminate the accents for durability.
Place magnetic letters in a bowl or basket in the middle of the

will spell the sight words out on the mats with magnetic
letters.
|
|

Laminate multi-colored construction paper. Create several
word family train mats like pictured at left using word families
your students are familiar with. Die-cut matching train
cars using the laminated construction paper. Use your
Sharpie marker to write the word family words on the train cars.
Students will locate the words and place them on the correct
word family trains.
|
|
Transportation Sentences 2
 |
Setting:
Small Group, Literacy Centers
Objective: Sight Word Recognition
Materials:
Sentence strips, Sharpie marker, transportation clip-art or
stickers
Directions:

Students "read" the sentences on each page using their knowledge
of numbers and sight words. Students place the appropriate number of
stickers on each page.
|
|
Transportation Path Game

Magic Stop Sign |
Materials: fingerpaint paper, red paint, paint
brushes, scissors, masking tape.
Take one
large piece of fingerpaint paper for each child. Using the
scissors cut strips of masking tape and stick the tape to the
paper to spell out the word "Stop". Have students
paint their papers with red paint all over, completely covering
the masking tape. When the paint is dry you can carefully
peel the tape off to reveal the word "Stop". Use the
scissors to cut the paper into a stop sign shape.
The same idea could be used to make "yield" and other traffic
signs. |

Shape Train |
Materials:
construction paper- various colors, scissors, glue stick,
crayons.
Have the
students cut out various shapes (rectangles, circles, squares,
etc) and glue together to make a part of a train. They can
use crayons to write their names on the side of the train.
When everybody is finished, assemble the "name train" on the
wall in the classroom or on a bulletin board. Make sure to
make one for yourself and place it in front :) |

Fingerpaint Tracks |
Materials:
several matchbox cars or other small cars with moveable wheels,
fingerpaint, fingerpaint paper or butcher paper, paint- various
colors.
Place
several different colors of paint in bowls or pie tins,
containers need to be big enough for the cars to sit in.
Next, give each student a sheet of fingerpaint paper OR use a
large sheet of butcher paper to make a class mural.
"Drive" the cars in the paint and across the paper to create
tracks. |

Transportation
Graph |
Materials:
Butcher paper, construction paper, crayons, glue.
Create a
graph using the butcher paper with a place for each form of
transportation (car, truck, train, airplane etc). Give
each student a square of construction paper and them to draw
their favorite form of transportation and write their name. When finished,
students glue their pictures on the graph in the appropriate
place.
|

Traffic Light |
Materials:
red, yellow, green, and black construction paper, glue,
scissors.
Have
students cut red, yellow, and green circles for the traffic
lights. Next, have them cut one large black rectangle and
glue the circles on in the appropriate order to create a traffic
light. |
|

Shape Sail Boat
|
Materials: blue and white construction paper,
crayons, glue, scissors.
Have
students cut triangles with the white paper. Next, ask
them to glue the triangles on the blue paper to make the sail.

blue paper. |
