Writing Center

Above you can see our Writing Center as it is set up in the classroom.

Below you can see explanations of each of the items pictured above.

Top Shelf from L-R:

  • Crayons

  • Markers

  • Scissors/Glue

  • Cutting Practice:  This consists of the fronts of old greeting cards I have my family and friends collect for me.

  • Pencils

  • Paper:  Paper is an important part of the writing center.  Although not pictured here I do have several different types of paper available for students to choose from.  White copy paper, folded cardstock so they can create their own greeting cards, and little stapled booklets of various shapes and sizes if they would like to make a book.  To make easy booklets stack 4 or 5 sheets of paper on top of each other and  staple the stack in each corner,  then cut in half and half again and you will have 4 booklets.

Middle Shelf from L-R:

 Alphabet Paper Punches

Students punch the letters of their names, friends names, or words and glue them to paper.

Clipboards and Surveys for Write Around the Room

From Lakeshore these surveys are laminated.  Students use Vis-a-Vis markers to write on them.

Alphabet Pasting Pieces

These alphabet pasting pieces are a huge hit in my classroom.  The students like to glue the letters to paper and spell their names and their friends names

Sandpaper Letters

Place skinned crayons and half sheets of paper with these and students can create crayon rubbings of the letters.

Bottom Shelf L-R:

Magnetic Writing Boards

Dry Erase Boards

The kids enjoy writing on these boards with dry erase markers, it's just another medium to get them to enjoy writing.

Alphabet Stamps

You can keep alphabet stamps organized when you store them in ice cube trays.  Label each empty space with a letter and the students can match the stamps to the correct space.  The students enjoy stamping their names or other words.
