This is a super simple tutorial that explains how to make felt tacos for your dramatic play center.
Adding something that kids can make in the dramatic play center increases engagement, opportunities for oral language development, and problem solving skills.
Supplies to Make Felt Tacos
- Felt {red, green, yellow, orange, and beige or “flour tortilla” color}
- Scissors
Customers at your pretend play Mexican restaurant can fill out the “Build Your Own Taco” order form pictured below to create tacos to their liking.
How to Make Felt Tacos for Dramatic Play
Step 1: Gather your felt. I found my sheets of felt four for a dollar at my local craft store.
Step 2: To make the tortillas fold one piece of felt in half, then half again so you have a square, see pictures two and three above. Using your scissors, cut the open edges of the square on a curve to create a circle. Make as many tortillas you think you will need. I stored mine in a tortilla warmer I found at the dollar store.
Step 3: Cut your felt. Cut the green felt into strips to represent shredded lettuce. Cut the orange and yellow felt into strips to represent the cheese. Cut the red felt into small squares to represent tomatoes. You can also use other colors of felt and shapes to represent different taco toppings.
Step 4: Start building your tacos!
