When it comes to Halloween time in the classroom, there are so many great ways to have fun with the materials you can get a store to create a fun lesson plan your students will love, like this spider activity using spider rings!
Target is a teacher’s best friend! I found these fantastic spider web plates there, just pair them with a bag of spider rings and you’ve got a great Halloween math activity.
Spider Activity Materials
- Halloween spider themed plates
- Plastic Spider Rings
Spider Counting Activity
I wrote the numbers 1-5 on index cards with a permanent marker.
Give each child in your small group a plate. Students will select a card and place the correct number of spiders on their plate.
Of course, they will love putting the rings on their fingers too- which is great because it provides additional counting practice.
Counting Pumpkin Seeds Activity
I’m not done with the party section yet, check out these cute Halloween cups!
Have your students count pumpkin seeds into the cups.
Halloween Stamp Counting Activity
I couldn’t find Halloween ink stamps at Target {somebody beat me to them- gasp!} but I did find these pictured above for less than $2 at Wal-Mart which inspired me to create a printable spider 1-5 counting book.
Halloween Macaroni
I also found the Kraft Trick or Cheesy macaroni and cheese on sale at Target for $1 and then I discovered the Boo-Mallows; it was a great day for Target (say it the cool way- it rhymes). Check out the Halloween page to see what else I came up with.

After reading so much of your idea of enviromental reading, it so makes sense to me…thank you for opening my eyes to another way of reaching my class to learn and understand what the alphabet is all about.
So glad I could help! Thanks for stopping by and letting me know 🙂
Such cute ideas and something I can even do at home with my little ones. The rings are something that you could keep bringing up throughout the day even.
Oh yes, those spider rings could keep them busy forever, they love them!
