Remember my French Fry Phoneme game? I always like to get the most bang for my buck so I created this comparison math game using the exact same materials.
If it’s fun and engaging as a literacy activity then it will still be just as fun and engaging when used for math. Although I recommend not using the two activities at the same time to avoid confusion. I’ve included the materials list and instructions for playing below as well as a free printable, keep reading to get your copy.
Supplies Needed for French Fry Math Game
- Yellow sponges {Dollar Store}
- French fry boxes {tutorial found here}
- Foam dice {dollar store}
- Crayons
- Recording sheet {free download below}
How to Play the French Fry Math Game
After you have assembled your boxes and cut your sponges according to the directions found here, have the students in your small group pair up- or pair them up yourself. Next, give each child a french fry box. Each pair of players should also receive one foam die and a recording sheet. Give each pair of players two crayons of different colors, for example player 1 gets a red crayon and player 2 gets a blue crayon.
To play, the students in each pair will take turns rolling the die and placing the corresponding number of french fries in their box. After each child has rolled the die and placed the correct number of fries in his or her box they will then count and compare the number of fries in their boxes to see who has more and who has less. They can record their comparisons using the sheet below. Player 1 will use a crayon to make tally marks in the appropriate column and player 2 will do the same in the other column using a different colored crayon. The player with the most fries can circle their box on the sheet to indicate “more.”
