Do you have a favorite book that you read aloud to your class the first few days of school?

I adore No David! and all the books by David Shannon but I also like to read books with photographs of real children and classrooms so students can make connections to the world around them.
Hurray for Pre-K
I was thrilled when the folks at Auryn contacted me about their latest app, Hurray for Pre-K! Some of you may already be familiar with this app since it started life as an honest to goodness book written and photographed by Ellen B. Senisi. This is one of my must read books for the beginning of every year.

If you followed our book study this summer you will remember that Brian Puerling discusses the importance of using photographs and images to inspire in chapter 2.
About the App
There are three different ways to read the book on your ipad:
- Read to Me – Listen to the story while the text is displayed on the screen. Child can swipe to turn the page when he or she is ready.
- Auto Play – The pages of the book advance automatically as the child listens to the story.
- Read Myself – Without narration, but the child can touch a word to hear it being spoken aloud.
You can also touch images in each photograph and the written word will appear accompanied by audio, great for second language learners or children with speech delays!
My favorite thing about this app is the ability to customize it with your own text and voice. I just touched the little button on the right that says “personalize” and I was able to record my own voice reading the entire story in just a few minutes, how cool is that?
This contest is over.
