How to Make Felt Tacos

Welcome to Pre-K Pages!

I’m Vanessa Levin, a curriculum writer, early childhood teacher, consultant, public speaker, and author. I help busy Pre-K and Preschool teachers plan effective and engaging lessons, create fun, playful learning centers, and gain confidence in the classroom.

This is a super simple tutorial that explains how to make felt tacos for your dramatic play center.

Adding something that kids can make in the dramatic play center increases engagement, opportunities for oral language development, and problem solving skills.

Start by gathering your felt. You can find sheets of felt in a wide variety of colors at your local craft store.

To make the tortillas, fold one piece of felt in half, then half again so you have a square.

Next, using your scissors, cut the open edges of the square on a curve to create a circle. Make as many tortillas you think you will need. I stored mine in a tortilla warmer I found at the dollar store.

Then, cut your felt to create the taco toppings. You can cut the green felt into strips to represent shredded lettuce. The orange and yellow felt can be cut into strips to represent the cheese. You can cut the red felt into small squares to represent tomatoes. Use other colors of felt and shapes to represent different taco toppings.

Finally, start building your delicious tacos!
