Welcome to Pre-K Pages!

I’m Vanessa Levin, a curriculum writer, early childhood teacher, consultant, public speaker, and author. I help busy Pre-K and Preschool teachers plan effective and engaging lessons, create fun, playful learning centers, and gain confidence in the classroom.

Looking for a quick and easy holiday ornament craft that your preschoolers or pre-K kiddos will love? Say hello to the popsicle stick snowflake—a sparkly, simple, and oh-so-fun project that’s as easy to prep as it is to make.

Using just a few basic materials—like craft sticks, Elmer’s liquid glue, and sparkly sequins—your little learners will create one-of-a-kind snowflakes to decorate your classroom or a Christmas tree. And here’s the best part: it’s open-ended! These cute snowflake ornaments tuck perfectly into the tree branches all on their own.

So, grab your supplies and get ready for a flurry of creative fun!

How to Make Popsicle Stick Snowflakes

Are you ready to get started? Here’s what you’ll need to make some dazzling craft stick snowflakes:

Materials:

  • 4 colored craft sticks per student
  • Elmer’s liquid glue (or a hot glue gun for faster drying, if you’re feeling fancy)
  • Glitter glue (the more sparkle, the better!)
  • Sparkly sequins
  • Optional: String or twine

Instructions:

1. Build the Snowflake Base

  • Take 2 craft sticks and glue them together in an “X” shape using Elmer’s liquid glue.
  • Add the third stick horizontally across the middle and the fourth one diagonally, creating a star-shaped snowflake.
  • Let the glue dry (and if you’re using a hot glue gun, you can skip the waiting game!).

Pro Tip: When the snowflakes are completely dry, write each child’s name and the date on the back of their snowflake using a Sharpie. Parents will appreciate the date because it helps them remember how old their child was when they created it. The names will help you quickly identify which snowflake belongs to each child.

2. Get Your Sparkle On!

  • Once the snowflake base is dry, it’s time to bling it out! Hand over the glitter glue and sparkly sequins—the kids can go wild adding their own unique designs.
  • Bonus points for using wintery colors like blue, white, or silver!

3.Nestle in the Tree

  • Once everything is dry (or mostly dry—preschoolers aren’t known for their patience), their snowflakes are ready to be displayed! No need for strings or hooks—these craft stick snowflakes nestle perfectly into the branches of a Christmas tree all on their own. You can glue a string loop on the back of the snowflakes if you prefer. And just like real snowflakes, each creation will be one of a kind!
