I Want to Be a Firefighter by Dan Liebman – The Common Core standards emphasize the importance of non-fiction text. This is a great non-fiction book with diverse, colorful photographs that describes the duties of a firefighter with factual text that is easy to understand.

Fire Fighters, by Norma Simon – This book takes readers from the fire station to a house gone up in flames and back to the station again. Trusty dalmatians help youngsters understand the seriousness of fighting a fire.
Spark the Firefighter, by Stephen Krensky – Spark is a dragon who is afraid of fire. To overcome his fear, he becomes a volunteer firefighter and learns to be brave.
Fireman Small, by Herbert Yee Wong – Fireman Small has had a busy day rescuing people and fighting fires . . . and it’s not over yet. Just as he’s preparing for a good night’s sleep, the fire bell rings yet again.
Firefighter Flo, by Andrea Zimmerman – Read along as the firefighters put on their fireproof suits, rush off in their truck, douse the fire with the big hose, and rescue the family pet.

The Little Fire Truck, by Margery Cuyler – Join firefighter Jill and her fearless little fire truck as they zip all over town to put out smoky fires and rescue those in need, with the help of the fire crew.
Fire Truck! by Ivan Ulz – With bold and colorful illustrations, this book follows firefighters as they work. The text is also a song (with sheet music included).
The Gingerbread Man Loose on the Fire Truck, by Laura Murray – While on a field trip to the fire house, the gingerbread man falls out of a classmate’s pocket and immediately attracts the interest of the firemen’s dog.
