Thanksgiving Turkey Math Activities

Welcome to Pre-K Pages!

I’m Vanessa Levin, a curriculum writer, early childhood teacher, consultant, public speaker, and author. I help busy Pre-K and Preschool teachers plan effective and engaging lessons, create fun, playful learning centers, and gain confidence in the classroom.

I can’t believe Thanksgiving is right around the corner!

Remember my obsession with paper party goods last month? Well it’s back with a vengeance!

I found these darling turkey plates and knew I had to create a Thanksgiving activity to go with them.

I wrote the numbers on the turkey plates with a permanent marker and the students attached the correct number of clothespins as the tail.

This would probably be even more adorable if I had colored the clothespins with a permanent marker or used clothespins that were already colored, but live and learn.

The best part of this activity is that it promotes development of fine motor skills as well as number sense, counting, and one-to-one correspondence.

If your students are younger you might consider drawing dots on the turkey’s tummy for additional support.

Of course, I couldn’t pass up the matching cups so I put some stickers on them and created another counting game. Students identify the number on the cup, then count and place the correct number of brown pom-poms in the cups.

You can find these ideas above and more on the Thanksgiving Page.
