Your students are learning many different literacy skills–identifying alphabet letters or clapping syllables or discovering beginning sounds. You can easily incorporate all of these skills and more using a fall theme in your preschool or pre-k classroom.
When your students engage in literacy activities focused on a common theme, they’ll begin to develop important oral language, literacy, and vocabulary skills. They can begin to build on what they already know to take their understanding even further.

Fall Literacy Activities for Preschool and Pre-K

To play the game, students will take turns drawing a card, identifying the letter, and marking it on their recording sheet. This activity also includes two recording sheets, one for uppercase letters and one for lowercase letters. You can find this alphabet game in the Fall Activities Bundle.

Fall Rhyming
Rhyming is an important part of developing phonological awareness. Students can begin to hear sounds in words and determine which sounds are the same and which are not. Students will have fun finding their rhyming partners in this fun, large group game. The game is available in color and black and white in the Fall Activities Bundle.

Fall Beginning Sounds
Are your students learning to identify beginning sounds? Beginning sounds are an important part of developing phonological awareness skills. In this activity, students will identify the beginning sound of each picture and attach a clothespin with the correct letter to the corresponding picture. There is also a black and white recording sheet included with this activity. The beginning sounds activity is included in the Fall Activities Bundle.

Fall Syllables
Syllables are an important part of developing phonological awareness skills. Your students can begin to hear and identify syllables in spoken words. In this game, preschoolers identify the picture and the number of syllables in each word. They roll the action cube and perform the corresponding number of actions. Then they place the picture card in the pocket chart underneath the correct number of fingers. This game is part of the Fall Activities Bundle.
