Can you believe it’s November already? This month our Guidecraft Educator’s Team is reviewing the Magneatos Better Builders.
I was really excited to get the Magneatos because I knew they would help support STEM in the classroom. In case you’re not familiar with STEM it stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Research has shown that providing young children with high‐quality STEM experiences in preschool can provide a stronger foundation for later success in not only math and science but also reading.
Another reason we want to make sure we are providing our youngest students with opportunities to develop strong STEM skills is because the jobs that will be available when they graduate from high school and hopefully college do not even exist yet (Alan November, 2010). But one thing we do know is that those jobs will rely heavily on STEM skills.
When I received my Magneatos in the mail I was overjoyed to finally have a magnetic building set to put in my science center that is not only SAFE for little ones but also supports early learning standards and is FUN to boot! It’s a win win win!
I won’t lie; one of my favorite things about the Magneatos is that there is no assembly- cue the Hallelujah chorus! I also love that they come with their very own storage container- score! I know, can you believe it? It’s almost like Guidecraft KNOWS what teachers and parents want
The possibilities for building with the Magneatos are endless. The super tough plastic rods in two sizes are magnetic, while the balls are steel. The pieces are the perfect size for little hands but definitely not too small. Magneatos will help children explore the principles of science, construction, and engineering while encouraging creativity and imaginative play.
Disclosure: I received the Magneatos Better Builders 100 piece set to review, I was not compensated in any other way. All opinions are 100% my own.
