Literacy skills are developed in the early years with hands-on activities and fun, interactive play. These activities with a Halloween theme help your little learners master the skills where they are and move on up the literacy ladder!

Preschool Literacy with a Halloween Theme
Oral language, vocabulary, and emerging reading skills are even more fun with a Halloween theme. The theme invites preschoolers to explore letters, words, syllables, and rhymes.
Halloween Alphabet Identification Game
Both the upper and lower case versions of this game are available {black and white or color} in the Halloween Bundle. This activity also includes two recording sheets, one for uppercase letters and one for lowercase letters. Use the cards that meet the needs of your students.
Halloween Rhyming
Students will have fun finding their rhyming partners in this fun, large group game available in the Halloween Bundle. Rhyming is an important part of developing phonological awareness. Students can begin to hear sounds in words and determine which sounds are the same and which are not.
Halloween Beginning Sounds
Print the beginning sound letters on clothespins. Students attach the clothespins with letters to the pictures on the beginning sounds wheel that have the corresponding beginning sounds. There is also a black and white recording sheet included with this activity.
Halloween Syllables
In the Halloween Bundle, you get all the pieces to play this syllables game. Students identify the pictures and the number of syllables in each word; then they perform the corresponding number of actions (from the rolled cube). Then they place the picture card in the pocket chart underneath the correct number of fingers.
Halloween Pocket Chart
The predictable text in this pocket chart set will help your students learn concepts of print such as left to right directionality, return sweep, one-to-one correspondence, and more. Help them point to the words as they read the chart. This activity is available in the Halloween Bundle.
Halloween Word Cards and Mini Word Charts
The printable word cards can be used to expand vocabulary in a pocket chart or on a word wall. These theme-related words and pictures will help students learn new words and build background knowledge for future reading and comprehension. The printable word charts are available in both black and white and in color. The word charts are great for individual word walls for students or as additions to the writing center. Both word cards and charts are available in the Halloween Bundle.
Halloween Emergent Reader
The predictable text in this book is designed to support your emergent readers. Use this book to reinforce concepts of print such as words are separated by spaces, left to right and top to bottom, written words match spoken words, common sight words, and more. The emergent reader is available in the Halloween Bundle.
Halloween Read and Write around the Room Activity
Print theme words, names, or other focus words on the different themed cards. Place them around the room for your students to find, read, and write! This fun read and write around the room activity is available in the Halloween Bundle.
